Moonlight Hike Sat June 23rd

Update 6/23/07- The weather looks great, the moonlight hike is a go :-)

Bob Gawel, hike leader of the former singles hiking group, Trailmix, has just announced plans to lead a moonlight hike Saturday, June 23rd!

Past night hikes have been very successful and very well attended; generally lots of fun for everyone, so this event is very much anticipated.

Saturday, May 5, 2007

It has been almost a year since our fellow hiker and friend, Tom Strock,
has gone on to better trails.

Bob Gawel is planning to lead a hike in Harriman State Park in memory of
Tom on Saturday, May 5th. He will be meeting people in the back parking
lot of the DoubleTree Hotel on Route 17 South in Mahwah [just south of Route 202] between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM.

After the hike, people may optionally join Bob for dinner at the Mahwah Bar and Grill (MB&G) on Route 202 in Mahwah.

No response is necessary. Just show up at the meeting place on Saturday,

Sat April 7 Hike Led By Bob Gawel

Folks from the former Trail Mix Hiking Club will be interested to know Trail Mixer Emily Liu will be visiting our area over the weekend from her home in California, so Bob Gawel will be leading a 5 mile hike in Harriman State Park in her honor on Saturday April 7, 2007.

Meetup time is 12:30pm – 1:00pm at the Doubletree Hotel on Rt. 17 South in Mahwah, NJ.

After the hike, probably sometime between 5:00pm and 6:00pm, people wanting to have dinner can meet up with the group at the Mahwah Bar and Grill.

In the event of bad weather the group will go bowling instead.

With the local weather forecast predicting showers and the amount of ice likely to still be on the ground at Minnewaska State Park, Ed has elected to postpone the Saturday, March 17th Hike, which was rescheduled last week for Mar 24th till Sat March 31st.

Sat 3/17 Hike Postponed

In consideration of the late-season snow storm in our area, Ed has decided to postpone his Saturday, March 17th Hike to Minnewaska State Park till next Saturday, March 24th, 2007.

Please note this hike is an additional hike to our regular Sunday Hike. Harriman Hikers will meet on Sunday for hiking as usual at Parking Lot 1-B, South Lots, Ramapo College, Rt. 202, Mahwah, NJ 07430 MAPS.

In lieu of the hike being postponed, Rich Hobbs is considering leading a cross-country skiing day trip to Fahnestock Winter Park, dependent on whether Fahnestock opens on Saturday. Please look on the Fahnestock Winter Park Website for information about Fahnestock Winter Park. If you are interested in going, call the Fahnestock Winter Park Office to find out if they are opening Saturday. Phone 845-225-3998.

If Fahnestock is open we will be there at opening, 9:00 AM. Cross country ski packages are available for rental if the park is open. Fahnestock Winter Park is located outside Cold Spring, NY in Putnam County, NY. Consult the Fahnestock Winter Park Website or call them for more info.

Appalachian Trail Conservancy Conference in July

New York – New Jersey Trail Conference (NYNJTC) will host the 36th Biennial Conference of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy at Ramapo College!

Just as we do each and every other week of the year, Harriman Hikers will be hiking Sunday, July 15th, however, we will likely meet up at an alternate location that Sunday. More details as how this might affect us we approach the week of the conference.
